Yesterday’s “Under Construction” Tour
Yesterday I toured two houses in two great neighborhoods. The first was a house about 3200 square feet built by Marquee Builders. It had two slightly small bedrooms downstairs, not including the Master bedroom, which was not huge, but was decent size. It had a vaulted Great room with a keeping room off the kitchen. Upstairs they had a large bonus room and a large bedroom with its own bath.
Although the house had lots of space square footage wise, it wasn’t well used. At the top of the stairs was a 3 by 3 foot landing, making for a very claustrophobic feeling. You could see where they could have had a perfect loft area, but instead it was used as storage. It wasn’t designed for its lot either. The lot was really bad, before they built it they had to put large pilings into the ground to support it. The lot was also incredibly small. Most of the lots in that section of the neighborhood were designed to be small, but you have a small backyard and front yard. The master was off the kitchen, but you could have it redesigned to fix that. It was not a family home at all.
The second house I went in was much larger home in The Peninsula. It had a great design and a larger lot. It was a water lot, so the people who designed the house took advantage of its gorgeous view with large windows in most of the entertainment rooms in the back. It lacked a study, but you could have easily turned one of the six bedrooms into one. It also contained a veranda that spanned the back of the house. But in the basement, the veranda above made it incredible dark. They could have improved the design by pushing the basement out so that the rooms extended out to the same length as the porch above and even further if they wanted to. All in all, it was a good house.
