Use of Light in House Designs
This is the first of several posts that will be on some interesting parts of house design.Light is very important to any house, and house plan designers take into consideration the light a house will have. There are two types of light. One is artificial light, i.e. light-bulbs. Then there is God’s light, or natural light. It is always good to have artificial light around your home, natural light will make any house look much larger.
Natural light can be used in many different ways. If you are looking to brighten up a room with dark cabinets or rooms with dark flooring, try large windows. If you have a dark area that you can’t put windows in, then try skylights. Skylights will lighten up any space, but the larger the room, the more skylights you will need. But for small spaces with no windows, like a bathroom, then just use one. While putting a skylight is much more expensive then just putting a light fixture in, a window or light will make a space more cheery.
Window size can also make a huge difference in the amount of light in your home. Short windows, although they do let in natural light, are not enough in rooms that you want light in. Taller windows that extend closer to the ceiling will let in more light and make your room bright. They can also increase the view that you have of the outdoors. Taller windows, although they are also pricey, will make rooms look much larger.
